Obituary of Shirley Paull
PAULL, Shirley K, 84, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Mrs. Paull was born in Hartford, CT and raised in Plattsburgh, NY. She met her husband, Stephen, at Syracuse Univ., where she married and graduated, ending up in Vineland, where they recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Along the way she raised three children, Lisa Paull, Stacey Paull, and Wendy Nelson (Greg), and the proud grandmother of Jonathan and Bradley Nelson. She was a trained social worker, employed with the Vineland Health Department for many years. She then was assistant librarian at Landis Middle School, eventually becoming librarian at the Beth Israel Community Library, where her greatest joy was reading to the three and four-year-olds from the adjacent nursery school, and watching them mature into young adults. Along the way she was also active in the community, having served on the board of directors of the Cumberland Regional Health Plan; board of directors of OMNI/CARE (The HMO), where she was charged with helping solicit doctors for the organization; served on the board and then president of Family Planning of Cumberland and Gloucester counties. She was also active with the Beth Israel Congregation, being a vice president of the sisterhood, and honored at a national convention as a Woman of Achievement for her efforts. She also ran the synagogue gift shop. She was also a life member of Hadassah. Her last request was she didn't want flowers or eulogies or mourning, but a celebration of life. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by services, at Beth Israel Congregation, followed by interment at Beth kehillah Cemetery, Egg Harbor Twp. Donations in her memory may be made to Beth Israel Congregation, 1015 E. Park Ave., Vineland, NJ 08360,, or
