Obituary of Father O.S.A.
Father Laurence Clark, O.S.A. passed away on February 17, 2011 at the Marylake Monastery, King City, Ontario. He was born on June 24, 1937 in Philadelphia to the late Paul Joseph and Mary (Schafer) Clark. He is survived by his sister Maureen McDaid and his brother Gregory-Philip Clark.
Father Larry entered the Augustinian Seminary in Staten Island, New York.. He professed September 5, 1961 and had his solemn vows to the Order of Saint Augustine on September 10, 1964. He was ordained a priest on November 19, 1966. Following his ordination, he was assigned at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish in Philadelphia and later served as pastor in the parishes of St. Mary's, Holy Name and Our Lady of Pompeii in New Jersey. Besides his parish ministries, he worked also at the marriage tribunal of the diocese of Camden.
Father Larry studied at the University of Ottawa and received his B.A. in 1963. He transferred to Canada and was affiliated to the Canadian Province in 1992. He was involved in the initial and ongoing formation of candidates discerning to become Augustinians and served as Director of Formation until 1996.
Father Larry was elected Prior Provincial and Superior of the Canadian providence for two terms since 1996 until 2006. While fulfilling his leadership role for the Augustinians and the retreats at Marylake, he was also appointed pastor of the parishes of St. Brigid's and Holy Cross in downtown Toronto.
