Obituary of Irving J Goldstein

Irving "Goldie" Goldstein, 95, of Vineland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 2, 2016. He was born December 19, 1920 to the late Abraham and Anna (Gordon) Goldstein. Irving graduated Vineland High School in 1938 and attended Glassboro College. He was in the National Guard and joined the Army 44th Infantry Division. He fought during World War II in Europe, earning 3 Bronze Stars. He met Evelyn Ruetemann while celebrating the end of the war at a parade on Landis Avenue and married her in 1946. He owned the popular Elite Luncheonette in Vineland and later ran the Sacred Heart School lunch program. "Goldie" was always active in sports, having coached CYO basketball at St. Francis of Assisi and High School basketball at Sacred Heart. He was inducted into the Sacred Heart Hall of Fame in 2011. He also was a founding member of the Dolphin Swim Club, a member of the Lions Club and a member of the Eastlyn Golf Club for several years, where he played nearly everyday. "Goldie" loved to travel, having visited 49 states. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, endless hours keeping up on sports and being an avid Phillies fan. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Goldstein; daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Doug Valente; grandson and his wife, Timothy & Ashleigh Fiocchi; four great-grandchildren, Dasia, Tristin, Alexandra & Evelyn; sister-in-law, Evaline Goldstein; niece Susan Greico and his nephews, Mark Goldstein, Richard Goldstein, Adam Goldstein & David Goldstein. Irving was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Ruetemann) Goldstein; son, Donald Goldstein; daughter, Linda Ostroff; grandson, Michael Fiocchi Jr; parents, Abraham & Anna Goldstein and his brothers, Milton & Bernard Goldstein. Funeral home visitations will be held on Sunday evening from 6pm to 8pm and again on Monday morning from 10am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
