Obituary of Joseph Anthony Chielli

Joseph Anthony Chielli, 87 of Cherry Hill NJ, died Friday April 6, 2007 in the Samaritan Hospice Center in Mt. Holly. Born in Vineland to the late Dominic and Ellen (Ambrose) Chielli he graduated from Vineland High School class of 1940. Joe was Quarterback of the famous 1939 undeafeated New Jersey State Champions, Vineland High School football team called the Poultry Clan. Joe was All State Quarterback and a Four Letterman during his time at Vineland High School. In 1997 he was inducted in the VHS Hall of Fame. Mr. Chielli graduated from Temple University where he was a star baseball player. During WW II Joe fought in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of The Buldge. He was the athletic director at the Overbrook School for the blind for thirty one years until his retirement. Under Joe's tenure Overbrook won many championships. He was responsible for the desegregation of the wrestling and track programs in Virginia and the other Southern states. After Joe's retirement his main joy was cooking, and especially spending time with his beloved wife Maria and his children and grandchildren.
