Obituary of Christine Marie Schneider

Christine M. (Ottinger) Schneider, 60. of Vineland, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 19, 2015, surrounded by her family. A dearly loved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she will be deeply missed by all those she so positively affected. A lifelong Vineland resident, Christine completed her primary schooling at Sacred heart High School in 1973 and earned an academic scholarship to Mount St. MAry's University in Maryland where she earned her B.A. in Secondary English Education in 1977. She began her life's work as an educator in 1978, teaching English at Vineland High School where she touched the lives of thousands of students in her 33-years career and participated in numerous extracurricular activities and committees, including service as Spirit Club and class advisor. Upon Christine's retirement from the Vineland School District in 2011, the Vineland High School Historical Committee selected her for placement on Vineland High School's 'Wall of Warriors" for her outstanding commitment and service to the students of VHS and she will forever be enshrined on the walls of the second-floor center "mushroom" at the Vineland High School South building. However, despite retiring, her calling to teach did not end; she worked as a litercy consiltant for the Rowan University-based Educational Information and Resource Center (EIRC) where she spent three years working in schools throughout South jersey with both students and teachers helping them develop strategies to improve reading and writing skills and eventually to prepare them for the recently implemented PARCC exam. Shethoroughly enjoyed this unique opportunity to not just continue working with children, but also to share her vast experience as a master teacher with so many new colleagues. She was also a highly sought after SAT tutor in the local community and, as an avis reader and advocate for reading, Christine served as President of the Board of Trustees at the Vineland Publc Library.
