Obituary of Josephine C. Karwowski

Surrounded by love, Josephine Karwowski died peacefully at home on November 15, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Josie was born in Dunellen, New Jersey to Stanley and Salomea (Keller) Pogorzelski. She was the widow of William J. Dempsey and Frank Peter Karwowski. Prior to moving to Vineland in 1956, she lived in the Bronx where she attended school and excelled as an art student. Josie was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Bishop McCarthy Auxiliary and an active member of the YMCA. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, music, art and sharing her Polish traditions. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her open arms and open heart, welcoming everyone into her life with her engaging smile. She is survived by her children John (Stella) Dempsey, Barbara Karwowski, Frank (Linda) Karwowski, Louise Karwowski, Roberta (Michele) Porcelli, Albert (Dorota) Karwowski, Michael (Kaye Thurman) Karwowski and her grandchildren Cindy, Anne, Allen, Tyler, Mary (Troy) Alyssa, Kate, Stephen and also her great grandchildren Desteny, Elizabeth, Zoie, Rory and Faelynn Rae; as well as her sisters Lillian Turowski, Stella Povich, nieces, nephews, John Barnabei and numerous other treasured friends. She was predeceased by her loving daughter Valerie, her siblings Chester, Mary, Frank and Helen and adopted son Walter Tushkov. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Divine Mercy Parish, The American Cancer Society or the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA.
