Obituary of Louis Nunziato

Louis A. Nunziato, 82, of Forest Grove, passed away on October 24, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center. He was born and raised in Vineland. He attended the Vineland public schools, graduating from Vineland High School in 1951, where lettered in baseball and basketball. Upon graduating Lou tried out with the Philadelphia Athletics. For many years he played in the Greater Vineland Baseball League, Fast Pitch Softball League and Basketball Leagues. Having the honor of being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. He entered into the US Army in January 1953 where he did his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the 11th Air Borne Division. He served overseas in Korea for 14 months and spent 12 months at the 38th Parallel. He was honorably discharged in 1956. After his discharge he worked in construction for 5 years before taking employment with the State of New Jersey where he worked for 30 years, 8 years with the Dept. of Treasury and the remainder with the Dept. of Agriculture, Lou than retired in 1991. Lou was involved as a former member of Franklin Twp. first Zoning Board of Adjustments, The Franklin Twp.School Board for 7 years , serving 1 year as President, a member of Gloucester Co. School Board Association for 4 years, representing FranklinTwp. and a member of the NJ State School Association as as an alternative for 1/2 year and a representative for 1 1/2 years representing Gloucester Co. Louis was also a former member of Sons of Italy in Vineland and Franklin Twp., The American Legion, The VFW Post 9530, A Life time member of VFW Post 157, Commander of Korean War Veterans in Cumberland Co since 1998, The United Veterans Council in Vineland and a lifetime PTA member. He enjoyed visiting the casinos with his wife Nora and traveling to Italy and France, he especially enjoyed his lunches with Junie and Frank. He was a big fan of the NY Yankees and Notre Dame. He also enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies on TV with his son Rob. His greatest joy was seeing his 2 older granddaughters become who they are today and their endless help in preparing the Christmas and Easter dinners which he so enjoyed and his 2 youngest grandchildren who he thought of so often and so wanted to see them grow up. He cherished his memories of all of them and his nephew Andy who was always there with a helping hand.
