Obituary of George F Dewes

Dewes, George Frederick - 97 passed away peacefully at Bishop McCarthy Residence on February 20th, 2015 in Vineland, New Jersey. George is survived by his son, Joseph (Rosalie) Dewes of Ventnor, New Jersey; grandchildren, Joseph (Maria) Dewes and Dana (Scott) Jackson; great grandchildren, Isabella and Julianna Dewes; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Angela (nee Fusco) Dewes; parents, George and Matilda Dewes; and his three sisters, Ann, Matilda, and Louise. George was born on April 3rd, 1917 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He met the love of his life, Angela (nee Fusco) on Steel Pier and they were married for 54 years. After moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, George began his career working for Union Switch and Signal as an assembler and supervisor. After George's retirement, he and Angie relocated to Buena, New Jersey to be closer to family and friends. George did not stay retired for long and had a second career working at Shop Rite in Vineland until age 90. Throughout his life he was sous chef to his wife, Angie, and enjoyed crabbing, fishing, the card game thirty-one. He enjoyed playing the violin as a young boy and was quite an accomplished whistler. George was a generous individual who loved food, music, wine, soup, old movies, lotto scratchers and an occasional trip to the casino. A visitation is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Tuesday, February 24th at Parish of St. Padre Pio Church of Our Lady of Pompeii. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Vineland. A reception will follow at Martino's Trattoria in Vineland. will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.
