Obituary of Sol G. Joffe

Sol Gilbert Joffe, 94, died Tuesday, December 30th in the comfort of his own home in Boyton Beach, Florida following a brief illness. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Corinne Joffe; his daughters, Wendy Gurowitz (Steven) and Leslie Wolf; his two grandchildren, Lyndsey Gurowitz-Furman (Daniel) and Steven Wolf (Erika); two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Morgan; and many close friends. Sol was born in Poland on September 19,1920, but moved to Mexico City at the age of three. He then moved to Vineland, New Jersey where he was greeted by his five cousins; the Blom Family. The son of Jacob and Helen Joffe, he was a lifelong resident of Vineland but often spent the winters in South Florida. In his early years, Mr. Joffe graduated from Vineland High School with honors; he then attended Penn State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree where he was voted "Best Dressed!" Sol joined the U.S. Navy, where he served with distinction in WWII as an Ensign. Sol fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After serving with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Joffe returned home and went to work for the family business, Joffe Lumber Supply Company. He then met the love of his life Corky and they married on February 6,1949. Sol had served on The Board of Directors of Tradesman's Bank, which later became The Bank of New Jersey. Sol was the Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, and was also a benefactor of the Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C. He served on the Board of Beth Israel and was member of the Jewish Federation. An avid golfer, Sol was a lifelong member of the Buena Vista County Club where he was named Club Champion many times. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Beth Israel Congregation. 1015 E.
