Obituary of Joel Cortez

Joel Denzel Cortez, 19 of Vineland, NJ, passed away on 5/5/14 in Philadelphia, PA. Joel was born in Vineland, NJ to Rosa and Elvin Cortez on November 13, 1994. He went to Vineland High School and graduated in 2012. Joel attended classes at Cumberland County College. He worked at both Sears Roebuck in loss prevention and Harrah's Casino in security and was interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. He had recently passed a civil service exam for Law enforcement achieving an outstanding score. He enjoyed playing video games, competitive sports including ultimate Frisbee, basketball and baseball where he participated in the North Vineland Little League. Joel is survived by his parents Rosa & Elvin Cortez, younger brother Xavier Cortez, maternal grandparents Gilberto & Rosa Moreno, Uncle Angel Moreno and Aunt Yolanda Moreno, paternal grandmother Aida M. Negron, great grandparents Daniel and Maria Montalvo and Dionisio and Eladia Negron, cousins Vanessa Moreno and Joshua Montalvo all of Vineland, NJ and his girlfriend Shenise Molina and many other aunts, uncles and cousins both local and out of state. Funeral Home Visitations will be on Friday evening, May 9 from 6pm to 9pm and again on Saturday morning, May 10 from 9am to 10am at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am on Saturday, May 10 at Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland, NJ.
