Obituary of May M. Piccioni

May (Pitman) Piccioni, 89, of the New Italy section of Vineland, wife of the late Roland Piccioni Sr., passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hialeah, Florida, May relocated to Vineland with her family at a young age after surviving the impacts of the 1926 Florida hurricane. After graduating with honors from Vineland High School, May attended the Vineland Business School and later operated the Piccioni family farm with her husband. After many years of farming, May returned to school and subsequently began her second career in bookkeeping, working in several area businesses, including Ralph Dauito and Sons Produce Brokers. In retirement, May pursued many passions, including history and geneology. She wrote and published several articles, and took great pleasure in sharing her research and knowledge with family and friends. May was very active in her community, serving as a long time member and lector of St. Mary's Church (now part of Padre Pio Parish). She was also a member of the Vineland Historical Society and an avid pinochle player, which she especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. Most of all, May loved and took pride in her family. She is survived by sons Richard (Elaine) Piccioni of Vineland and Roland (Rita) Piccioni of Glassboro, and daughters Barbara ( and the late Edward) Daley, Rosalie (and the late Ernie) Hutchinson and Lauren (Salvatore) Perna, all of Vineland, and Lynn (Raymond) Newton of Leland, NC. She is also survived by grandsons Ernie (Christine) Hutchinson odf Washington Twp., Anthony (Paula) Newton of Morrisville, NC and Paul Piccioni of Glassboro, granddaughters Deanna Hutchinson (Peter Huff) of Washington Twp., Jennifer Perna of Vineland and Christen Piccioni of Glassboro, and great grandsons Matthew and Nicholas Huthinson of Washington Twp., brothers Robert (and the late Lorraine) Pitman of Malaga and Edwin (Marion) Pitman of Vineland. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Pitman.
