Obituary of Esther Nunberg

Esther Nunberg of Vineland died peacefullyMonday in her Vineland home after several years of illness. She is survived by her son, Max Nunberg and Andrea; daughter, Susan Kutner and MArk and their sons Benjamin and Aaron; Son, M. Jerry Nunbrg and Mindy and their son William; son Dr. Robert Nunberg and Elizabeth and their daughters Sarah and Caroline. She is survived by her sister, Lola Schajer and her brother, Eliezer Schwarzberg and many nieces and nephews and their descendants. She was predeceased by her husband William (Wolf) Nunberg and her son Rabbi Samuel Nunberg. Of her siblings who survived the Holocaust, she was predeceased by her brother Harold (Heschel) Schwarzberg. Mrs. Nunberg was born in bedzin (Bendin), Poland on january 2, 1924. She was one of four out of ten children who survived her parents in the Holocaust. Shortly after the war ended she married William Nunberg, and after having their sons Samuel and max in Germany, they immigrated to the United States in 1949. The following year they purchased a poultry farm and moved to Vineland, and after several years they returned to the family business of several generations of both her and William's families, opening Nunberg's Kosher Delicatessen and Catering. This was the only strictly Kosher restaurant in Vineland. Esther was a member of Orthodox synagogue Sons of Jacob Congregation. She was a life member of Hadassah and one of the founders of women's ritual committee of the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance. After the loss of her parents and most of her siblings during WWII, she did not dwell on her loss. Instead, she rejoiced in her children and her grandchildren in the life she and her husband were able to establish in the United States. She was a devoted Jew and raised her children to understand and follow her Jewish heritage.
