Jacob Teichman

Obituary of Jacob Teichman

Jacob Teichman, 108, was born in a small village, Zloczew, Poland, into a large family, which included four brothers and two sisters. The family owned a ranch, raising horses, as well as a bus transportation business. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marie, and they were married on June 2, 1939. Their happy life together was shattered on September 1, 1939, when the Nazis invaded Poland. Jacob and Marie endured incredible pain and suffering at the hands of the Nazis. Jacob's father, mother, four brothers, a sister and two-year old son, Isaac, were murdered by the Nazi barbarians. During the closing days of the war, Jacob was grievously wounded and paralyzed during a battle. The doctors said he would never walk again, but Jacob battled back and proved them wrong. After the war, Jacob and Marie lived in Germany. In 1950, they sailed to the United States knowing no one, in order to start a new life. They went into the poultry business, and Jacob drove an egg truck, often times twice daily, from Norma to New York City and back. Eventually, they opened their own retail business, named Nellie's Bargain Center, named after their daughter, who was born to them in post-war Germany. Jacob and Marie were very successful, working tirelessly, seven days a week, virtually non-stop, until retirement. In 1991, the love of Jacob's life, Marie, passed away, but now he has joined her in Heaven for Eternity. Jacob enjoyed reading voraciously, observing international and national politics, was a proud American and supporter of Israel, was a member of Jewish Federation of Cumberland County and an associate member of Hebrew Womens Benevolent Society. He also enjoyed being active outdoors and spending time with family, including his grand-puppies, Teddy and Cubby. Jacob charmed anyone and everyone with kindness, decency and integrity. Jacob is survived by two daughters, Manella Cohen and Terry Kuhnreich, a son in law, Eli Kuhnreich, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All will miss him enormously. Jacob has left a legacy that will live forever.
