Obituary of Emeline Ward

Emeline Dorland Ward Emeline (affectionately called Em) Dorland Ward born April 25, 1921 died February 4, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was the youngest of six children born to Frank and Mamie Dorland of Elizabeth, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 43 years, Burton Henry Ward Jr. and her oldest son, Burton "Buddy" Henry Ward III. She is survived by her children, William J Ward, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Gardner and their spouses, Carole (Hogg) Ward and K. Ronnie Gardner. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Richard "Ricky" Ward, William J. Ward, Jr., Shelly Ward Richards, and Ronald K. Gardner, Thomas P. Richards Sr. and Valarie (Vanaman) Ward, honorary grandchildren; Marnie Hendershott and Deanne Dounoulis and her great grandchildren; Katelyn Conesky Ward, William J. Ward, III, Madison E. Richards, Abigail L. Ward, Thomas P. Richards II, Tyler D. Ward and Luke R. Ward. Em moved to Vineland with her family when she was ten years old. She graduated from VHS in 1939 and worked for over 34 years in the meat department at both AMP and then Shop Rite. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church serving as a Communion Stewardess with her daughter. As a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey, which is a religious charitable organization, she served in many leadership capacities such as the Worthy Matron, and Grand Representative of Maryland. She loved being with her family, playing cards with her long time friends, going to see shows in NYC and Philadelphia, and shopping. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Bishop McCarthy, First United Methodist Church, or Shekinah Chapter #82. The viewing will take place at Rone Funeral Home and funeral services at the First United Methodist Church.
