Obituary of Violanda Renzo

Violanda "Vi" DiRenzo 86 of Buena Boro passed away Wednesday April 7, 2010 at her residence. She was born on June 5, 1923 to Sicilian immigrants Vincenzo and Carmella (Giannino) Garofalo who eventually settled on a farm in Minotola. The youngest of six children, she was pre-deceased by her siblings, Dr. Domenick Garofalo, Virginia (Zee) Giglio, Josephine Garofalo, Joseph Garofalo and Martha Garofalo. Vi was a longtime area educator. A graduate of Glassboro State College, she enjoyed an exemplary 36-year career in education, as a principal of Landisville School, teacher at the Jewish Day School of Vineland and a math teacher in the Upper Deerfield Schools from which she retired. She has given generously of her time, energies and resources to our community. She was a longtime member and past president of the Sicilian American Club of South Jersey as well as a 2007 recipient of the Spirit of Achievement Award. She was an avid sports enthusiast and especially passionate about the Phillies and Eagles. When she wasn't watching "the game" you could find her in her kitchen or her organic vegetable garden. Vi was also a lifelong parishioner of Queen of Angels Parish-the Church of St. Michael in Minotola. Vi leaves her devoted husband of 59 years, Vincent P. DiRenzo, her beloved children Jim DiRenzo, Violanda Adams and her husband Michael, Bernadette DiRenzo, Richard DiRenzo and his wife Lin, and her treasured grandchildren Elizabeth and Nate DiRenzo, Ami, Pete and Shane Adams. She also leaves her dear godchild Frances Rovani and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless wonderful friends. A funeral home visitation will be held on Saturday April 10, 2010 from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm at Rone Funeral Service, A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 pm from Queen Of Angels Parish At the Church Of St. Michael, 504 West Avenue, Minotola. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
