Obituary of Phyllis Zislin
Phyllis Zislin most recently of Urbandale, Iowa, and formerly and for most of her life from Vineland, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2006 following a brief illness. Phyllis was born in Newark, New Jersey to Mark and Ann Donner on January 26, 1928. She attended high school in Macon, Georgia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Montclair State College in 1949. Phyllis taught junior high English in the Vineland public school system and then went to Glassboro State (Rowan College) to obtain her master's degree in Library Science. She rounded out the rest of her 29 total years working for the Vineland Public School System as the librarian at Landis Junior High/Middle School. Phyllis continued her librarian work as a part time librarian for several years at the Vineland Public Library.
She was an avid reader, a bit of a computer geek and an actress at heart. Many will remember her wonderful portrayal of Mrs. Higgins in the Beth Israel production of My Fair Lady. Phyllis served on the Board of Directors for the Beth Israel Sisterhood and helped manage the gift shop there. Phyllis and Irv co-edited the Beth Israel newsletter, "The Scroll", for several years.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Irv, her son Alex (Linda) of Princeton Junction, her daughter Ellen (John) of West Des Moines, Iowa, her brother Dr. Robert Donner (Janice) of Macon, Georgia, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 1:30 PM at Rone Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beth Israel Congregation or to one's favorite charity.
