Obituary of David Valentino

David Valentino, 70 passed away on October 6, 2009, at his home in Hallandale Beach, Florida. He was born in Cedarbrook, NJ to the late Pasqua "Esther" (Tomasino) and Ignatz "Nazy" Valentino. After graduating Hammonton High School, David entered the United States Marine Corps in 1958 and fought in five definitive battles of the Korean War. Afterwards he began his carer in law enforcement. He was accepted into The Municipal Police School at Sea Girt, NJ, where he posted the Highest Scholastic mark for the 68th Class of theNew Jersey PoliceAcademy in 1962. Dave was sworn in as a Vineland Plice Officer on June 1, 1962. Following his resignation in 1963, he entered the New Jersey State Police Academy and became a New Jersey State Trooper in 1964. In November 1969, he was elected Sheriff of Cumberland County and was sworn in as the County's youngest Sheriff at the age of 29. As Sheriff, he instituted The Cumberland County Police Academy at Cumberland County College. After serving his term as Sheriff and then working as a consultant in private industry, he retired to the Cherry Hill area and then to Hallandale Beach, Florida where he will be remembered for his friendship, kindness and his willingness to help others.
