Sister M. Michael Tucci, age 97, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ died on November 21 at Misericordia Convalescent Home, where she had been a resident since 1998.
Born in Hazleton, PA, Sister Michael was the daughter of the late Peter and Chiara Petrella Tucci. Having entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in York, PA on February 22, 1939, she professed her Vows on August 16, 1940.
Totally dedicated to her religious vocation, Sister Michael's life was characterized by her spirit of persevering prayer, her great love for her religious congregation, and her outstanding joy in ministering to others.
A teacher for many years, Sister Michael taught in various schools in Milford and Springfield, Massachusetts, Berwick, Old Forge and Steelton, PA, and Brigantine and Newfield, NJ.
Besides being an educator, Sister Michael enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. She took great pleasure in doing things for others and she loved to be among people. Known for her joyful spirit and her love for everyone, she often engaged in lively conversation with those around her, and, when warranted, she was quick to console and comfort those who needed it. Artistically talented, Sister Michael took great pleasure in creating beautiful and useful hand-made items that she could give to others.
In addition to her parents, Sister Michael was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Nicholas Tucci and sisters Catherine Marone and Rose Cutro all of Hazleton. .
She is survived by her religious community, the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, her niece, Joanne C. Marrone of Maryland, her nephew Peter Tucci and wife Dorothy of Hazleton, other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Monday, November 24, at 11:30 AM at Misericordia Convalescent Home, York, PA. Rev. L. Fred Nkwasibwe, AJ, the Home's chaplain.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ, on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Piet? Cemetery on the grounds of Villa Rossello.
Arrangements are under the direction of John W. Keffer Funeral Home, York, PA and Rone Funeral Service, Vineland, NJ.
