Obituary of Marie Derby
Marie (Meneghetti) Derby was called home to our Lord at the Inspira Medical Center in Vineland following a courageous battle with cancer on July 9, 2017. Marie was born on July 7, 1938 in the small coal-mining town of Dominion #1 in Nova Scotia, Canada to the late Frank and Julia Meneghetti. She came to the U.S. at six months of age. Marie and her family settled in Vineland where she met the love of her life. Marie was educated in the Sacred Heart School System. She went on to nursing school and became an LPN. She nursed at various hospitals in the South Jersey area becoming a critical care nurse in the post-ICU floor of Newcomb Hospital for the last 17 years of her nursing career. She was a dedicated and caring nurse noted for the sharpness of her nursing attire and her always freshly polished nursing shoes. Marie retired in December of 1994 due to serious health issues. Marie enjoyed cooking, cleaning her home, bargain shopping and dancing. She enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars on television, often saying that she would have liked to be on that program. Marie served as an elder of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vineland. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club and was a Republican Committeewomen.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Ronald N Derby. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 4, 2015 by reciting their wedding vows at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in front of family and friends. Marie was also survived by her two children Sharon Wadden (Darrell) of Vineland and Scott Derby (Beth) of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Chelsea Derby (Andrew Stewart) of Williamstown and Jason Wadden (Jessica) of Vineland; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Samuel; her brother & his wife, Frank and Brenda Meneghetti; aunt Jean Galli the matriarch of the Meneghetti family and many nephews and nieces
A funeral home visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
