Obituary of Joseph Gino Parenti

Joseph Gino Parenti passed away on January 20th with his family by his side. He was 94. Gino will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was known as a master of "one-liners". An avid gardener, he was proud to pick and share the many vegetables his garden produced every summer. His lawn and yard were also immaculate and he took great pride in having every plant, shrub and blade of grass just perfect and ready for display in the finest of the lawn and garden magazines. He also loved to hunt and fish. One of his main passions was making wine. Every year in early September you could count on a hum of activity happening in Gino's wine room. Finally, he loved to have people around, especially his family. Every holiday was topped off with a chicken BBQ at Pop-Pop's. Prior to retiring in 1985 Gino was a union electrician with IBEW Local 592. Before that he was employed by the Parenti family chicken business in Landisville. Gino was most proud of his service in the military during WWII. He was an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps and served with the 675th Bomb Squadron of the 417th Bomb Group. Most of his tour was in the Pacific in and around the Phillipines. If someone even mentioned WWII they had better be ready for a long conversation centered on types of aircraft and the experiences he had "over there". Mostly he was proud of the patriotism he felt was present in our country at that time. Gino was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Gloria (Alvino), his parents Arthur and Minnie (Peretti) and his brother, Vincent. He is survived by his daughters Betty Ann Lera and husband, Gene, and Janet Barber and husband, Dave. He has four grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Eric Mogck, Gene Jr. and wife Brooke, Brooke Barber and Erik and wife Elisa Barber. Finally his great-grandchildren are Gavin and Reagan Mogck, Dominic, Vincent and Lorenzo Lera, Mia and Mackenzie Meyrick and Paxton Barber. He is survived by a sister, Marion Coia , of Fox Chase, PA. A very special part of Gino's life for the last four and a half years has been his caretaker and friend, Christine Prate. They became very close and she provided him with extra special care during some very difficult times. Gino's little miniature dachshund, Tiney, brought him many hours of companionship and she was also very special to him.
