Obituary of Mary Zanni

Mary Angelo Zanni, in her 96th year, of Vineland, NJ, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday April 25, 2014. She was born on Nov. 18, 1918 in Hastings, PA to the late Louis and Elizabeth (Bossa) Angelo, formerly of Calabria, Italy. She married the late Tullio Zanni in 1940 and raised their family in Vineland. She was the last of the Greatest Generation of her family. This included her six siblings, their spouses, her husband, his seven siblings and their spouses. Mary was an active member of the Malaga Assembly of God and often helped out with neighboring churches. She loved to travel and took her family on many road trips throughout the U.S. Like her sisters, she was an excellent cook, specializing in Italian cuisine. She happily used her sewing skills to create clothes and furnishings for her extended family. She was president of the women's auxiliary of the Vineland Little League in the early 1960s. Beginning with World War II, Mary was a professional seamstress for several Vineland area garment factories, specializing in military uniforms, retiring in 1983. She was a volunteer for the Ground Observer Corp (the Cold War Civil Defense program) which provided aircraft tracking. Mary's faith, family, and patriotism were the essence of her love. Mary is survived by two children: Marlene Asselta (Sean Sloane) of Glassboro, NJ and Wayne T. Zanni of Williamstown, NJ., four grandchildren: Jane Asselta (John McCarvill) of Collingswood, NJ, James W. Asselta (Susan Brown) of Vineland, Andrea Lauren Castellina of Glassboro, and Naval Ensign Wayne Michael Zanni (Sarah) (currently serving in the Middle East) of South Mills, N.C., three great-grandchildren, James W.
