Obituary of Jonathan M Fairhurst Sr.

Jonathan Michael "Jack" Fairhurst Sr. 76 of Millville, passed away Saturday February 8, 2014 in the New Jersey Memorial Home in Vineland. Jack was born in Vineland to the lat Jonathan and Jennie (Barbaccia) Fairhurst where he lived before moving to Millville in 1960. Jack spent 15 years in the Boy Scouts of America troop 12 and 35, and belonged to the Brotherhood of the order of the Arrow. He graduated from Vineland High School in 1955. Jack served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Meredithy and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was a member of the Millville Jay Cee's, an avid member of the Hickory Gunning Club and the Highland Anglers. Jack was a boat builder, a home builder, and belonged to the NJ Carpenters Union for 37 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and camping with his family and friends. Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mattie (Meekings) Fairhurst, daughters and their husbands, Patti and Ken Bailey of Vineland, Jackie and John Strzemieczny, of Millville, his son Jonathan Michael Fairhurst Jr. of Millville, granddughters: Faith and Kaitlyn Strzemieczny, and one great-granddaughter. also surviving are his uncle James Barbaccia, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
