Carmela Tedesco

Obituary of Carmela Tedesco

Carmela Zipeto Tedesco, age 98, passed away Saturday January 25, 2014 surrounded by her family. Carmela was born and raised in Landisville, New Jersey and continued to live there after her marriage to Salvatore Tedesco. She was a seamstress by trade and worked in several of the Landisville area clothing factories until her retirement at the age of 70. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was an active member of the Our Lady of Victories parish and school and a founding member and former President of the Our Lady of Victories Parent Teacher Association. Carmela was perpetual motion, possessing inexhaustible energy. She was always there to offer a helping hand in others' times of need. As the eldest child she took on adult responsibilities in caring for her younger sisters and brother as her parents went to work. In her later years she became primary care giver for her husband and sister when they fell ill. She took on these responsibilties without complaint and just did what needed to be done. She was made of the "right stuff" and exemplified the "Greatest Generation". She had the "gumption" as some would say. A passionate cook, it was a rare family or friends' christening, engagement, wedding or other celebration that went without a tray of her little white cookies. No child or grandchild could leave her house without an armfull of ravioli, cavatelli, tortellini or pizzelle's. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, Salvatore, her parents, Tressa and Rocco Zipeto, brother, Enrico (Harry) Zipeto, and sisters, Mary Badame and Concetta (Connie) Zipeto. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Marie Prisinzano and her husband, Russell; son, Rocco and his wife, Debra; grandchildren, Teresa-Jo Romano (Anthony), Gregory Prisinzano, Sr., Anita English (Scott) and Michael Tedesco; great-grandchildren, Gregory, Jr., Samantha and Salvatore Prisinzano, Dominic R. and Olivia Romano and Nicholas and Nina English, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements etc Donations may be made to the Bishop McCarthy Residence.
