Obituary of Jacob Small

Jacob "Jake" Small, 85, died after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Norma to Ida and Julius Small. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Muriel, children Julie, Debra, Lourie, their spouses, 5 grandchildren, sister Rosie, 4 nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by a brother, Benny. Jake had lifelong ties with his hometown of Norma. He was proud to have been the 8th Grade valedictorian. After graduating from Vineland High School, he served in the armed forces as a firefighter in Kodiak, Alaska. He then attended Temple University, graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, married the love of his life, Muriel Kaiser, and settled in Vineland. He was a pharmacist for the next ten years at Giacalone's Pharmacy, followed by thirty-six years as Director of Pharmacy at the Vineland State School. Upon his retirement, he spent time driving those in need to medical appointments and visiting area nursing homes. He served on the board of Alliance Cemetery, was a lifetime member of Hadassah, Jewish War Veterans, and Men's Club of Beth Israel. He enjoyed biking, walking, loved cats and horses, and mostly just spending time with family. He will be remembered as a kind person with a good heart, and will be greatly missed by his family. If desired, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Beth Israel Congregation, Jewish Federation, Jewish Benevolent Society, or to his granddaughter, Kelly's, animal organization that helps the abundant strays in Cuenca, Ecuador (checks payable to Julie Fox, 110 Plattsburg Ave., Burlington, VT 05408)
