Obituary of James P Brooks Sr.

James P. Brooks, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully, on July 2, 2013, at his home, spending his final days surrounded by loving family and friends. Jim was born in Chevrolet, Kentucky, to the late Staley and Daisy (Berry) Brooks. After spending his childhood in Kentucky, he later moved to Toledo, Ohio where he met and married his wife, Rita in 1949. He ultimately settled in Vineland, having spent time here throughout his career as an Engineer for Owens Illinois. In his retirement, Jim was an avid bowler and fisherman. But he most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as socializing with friends from the North Italy Club. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Jim leaves to cherish his memory his son and wife, Jim & Cindy Brooks, of Vineland; son and wife, Greg & Carmi Brooks, of Vineland; sisters, Mildred Bushman, Muriel Balonek, Phyllis Cartwright, of Toledo, OH; sister and husband Joan and Dorsey Kinsey, Marilyn Brooks, also of Toledo, OH; brother-in-law and wife Louis and Margo Azbart, of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Anthony & Lou Ann Brooks, Marissa & Jeff Travaline, Jimmy and Danielle Brooks, Ann Marie Brooks, and Carolyn Brooks; and great-grandchildren Catie & Lucas Brooks, and Jackson & Jayce Travaline and Michaela Brooks; longtime friend and companion, Ann Ciarlante. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita, in 1983; sisters, Virginia Zielinski and Jackie Kruczkowski , and brother, David Brooks.
