Obituary of Robert Giovinazzi

GIOVINAZZI, Robert, A. "Bob", age 87 was born April 6, 1925 in Vineland to the late Cosmo A. Sr. and Concetta (Mastrippolito) Giovinazzi. He was a lifelong resident of Buena Boro. An educator for 34 years in both teaching and administration, Bob taught in Vineland for several years before retirement. He was a part-time Municipal Clerk in Buena Boro for 14 years. Bob attended the Buena elementary schools, graduated from Temple University High School, then received his Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. He went on to receive his Masters Degree in Education at Glassboro State College. He attended Rutgers University where he received state certification as a Municipal Welfare Director. He also served in the U.S. Army in early 1940. He was active in serving his community. While attending Seton Hall, he came home weekly to organize the St. Michael's Boys Club, serving over 100 boys in various sports and activities. Bob was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish where he served as a member of the Consolidation Committee of St. Michael and Our Lady of Victories Parishes and also served as a member of its Pastoral Council. Bob was active as a Minister of Hospitality, and an unofficial "Sacristan" of St. Michaels, as well as an Arch-Angel (alter server for funerals). Bob was a member of the Buena Boro Republican Club, a lifelong member of the National Education Assn. and a member of the New Jersey Education Assn. He served on the Board of Governors of the NJ Municipal Welfare Director Assn. and was one of the original organizers of the Buena Little League. Through his years he received several recognitions, but most cherished by him was receiving of the Dr. J.P. Cleary Outstanding Citizen Award for Buena Boro/Buena Vista Township. Survivors include his sons Robert M. Giovinazzi and wife, Donna, of Franklinville and Thomas E. Giovinazzi of Minotola; daughter Janine C. Giovinazzi of Fort Myers, Florida; sister, Louise D'Alessandro, Minotola; Grandchildren Genevieve, Mark, Madison and Michael; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
