Obituary of Michael I Pantalione

Michael I. Pantalione, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, public servant, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 80. But to those who knew him, he was much, much more than that. He was a man who lived life genuinely, with passion, with integrity, empathy and a quiet humility that exemplified the beauty of the wonderful gift provided by God. Born in 1945, in Vineland, New Jersey, Michael was the beloved son of the late Michael and Margaret Pantalione. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Pantalione, and his son, Matthew Pantalione. Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Therese Pantalione (Barker), the love of his life. Their story began while working together at the Landis Movie Theater in Vineland. They were married on December 6, 1969, and together built a beautiful life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. He is also survived by his loving children, Shavaughn Mulherin (Michael) and Michael Pantalione Jr. (Meghan Rabbai), who were blessed by his guidance, support, and unconditional love. Known for his honesty, kindness, and romantic spirit, Michael had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. He possessed a gentle nature, a generous heart, and an infectious smile that brightened every room. His love for his family was evident in all that he did, and his greatest joy was spending precious time with those he loved. Michael was also a beloved brother to Joan Fussell (Harry), Anna McDonald (Dennis), and Marguerite Glogau (Eric), an uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews, a cousin, and a treasured friend to many whose lives were enriched by his warmth and friendship. A proud graduate of Vineland High School's Class of 1964, Michael went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he attended the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism and embarked on a successful newspaper career. Over the years, he worked for the Hammonton News, The Paulsboro Record, The Press of Atlantic City, and the Daily Journal. Across the region, Michael knew most business owners and they knew him for his easygoing, caring personality. After leaving the newspaper business, Michael's retirement did not last long; a week later he began a second career with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission conducting bus inspections. Then, after retiring once again, he continued doing what he loved by transporting vehicles for Toyota in Vineland. Wherever he went, Michael formed lasting friendships and enjoyed connecting with people from all walks of life. Michael had many passions, but few matched his love of automobiles. A familiar face at local car shows, he proudly helped establish Vineland's very first Cruise Night and attended every Cruise Night thereafter. He loved sharing his enthusiasm for cars with family and friends. He also found immense joy in traveling with Therese, tending to his garden and many plants, and cheering on his grandchildren in all their activities. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he leaves behind a lasting legacy through his beloved grandchildren: Liam and Hadyn Mulherin, and Michael III and Gavin Pantalione. Michael's commitment to serving others extended beyond his family. He dedicated countless hours to improving the community he loved. He served on the Vineland Planning Board for a remarkable 51 years. At age 29, he became the youngest chairman of the Board in Vineland's storied history. He also spent 16 years as a member of Vineland City Council, albeit not with a politician's bravado, but with an unassuming and caring mindset as an objective voice of the citizens for whom he served. He was also an active member of both the Vineland Municipal Alliance Committee and the Vineland Downtown Improvement District. His leadership, dedication, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impact on the City of Vineland and its residents. He was also an active member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish and the Church of Saint Isidore the Farmer. He spent decades as a member of the church choir and he also served as a Eucharistic Minister, roles that he cherished as a servant of God. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses who compassionately cared for Michael during his illness. Their kindness, professionalism, and support brought comfort during a difficult time and will never be forgotten. Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the countless memories Michael leaves behind. His life was defined by love, service, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him to live with kindness, integrity, and a boundless capacity for love. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. A funeral home visitation will be held on Friday evening, June 26th from 6pm to 8pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ and at the church on Saturday morning, June 27th from 9:45am to 10:45am followed by a funeral mass at 11am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Saint Isidore The Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland.
