Obituary of Linda Rowan-Slavick

Linda K. Rowan Slavick, 81 of Vineland, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 14, 2026. She was surrounded by her family and dogs, overlooking her favorite view of her pool and the most beautiful sunrise over the lake in her backyard. Born in 1944 in Steubenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Ann M. Gleason. She grew up in Toronto and Steubenville where she enjoyed spending time with her loving and proud family, watching her mom bowl in many leagues, and going to the countryside to her Aunt Mary's farm. She went to Catholic school and raised holy hell there. This theme would continue throughout her life, in the best possible ways. Linda married George M. Rowan Jr. in 1965. George worked in the construction field for Bechtel Corp. and built nuclear power plants, resulting in moving their young family to Massachusetts, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Linda went on to attend college at Kent State University, earning a degree in Nursing. Linda and her family moved to Vineland in 1977, where she began working at Newcomb Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. With a strong work ethic, Linda was promoted to various positions, including Head Nurse of the Medical/Surgical Unit on 2nd Floor South, and eventually became the Nursing Recruiter and Staffing Coordinator for Newcomb. After leaving Newcomb, Linda worked for several other healthcare providers throughout South Jersey in management positions. She was always the type of person who could get anything done, including the impossible, and she held those around her to the same work ethic and standard. She expected excellence from others. As tough as she could be, she was fair and her staff learned "the right way" of doing things from her, appreciated her, had kind words to say about her and remained in touch over the years. In 1989, Linda married Dr. Harris D. "Skip" Slavick, and together they shared over 36 wonderful years of marriage and 46 years together. She ended her nursing career as the Office Manager for her husband's Urology practice for many years, before retiring. Linda will be fondly remembered for her love of her grandchildren and their friends, to whom she became their "Grammy" instantly. If you had the chance to talk to Grammy, she would tell you all about her boys. From building things to packing her Ford Excursion for dirtbike races to watching baseball games, she would not miss a beat. While her grandchildren were the center of her world, Linda had a special place in her heart for her dogs. Throughout her adult life, she rescued many shelter dogs with Skip, where they lived long happy lives in her care. Linda is survived by her loving husband, Harris Slavick; Children, George M. Rowan III (Karen), Jeffrey Rowan; Stepchildren, Karen Slavick and Jason Slavick (Tamar), Grandchildren, Brian Rowan (Samantha), Mark Rowan (Courtney), Jeffrey Rowan (Amanda), Nolan Rowan, and Hannah Lennard; Adopted Grandchildren, David Worden (Shelby), James Dzierwinski (Christy); Great Grandchildren, Vera, Nora, Brian, Scarlett, Violet, Ellie, and two soon-to-be-born baby boys, who she will be the first to kiss as she sends them our way. Linda was predeceased by her mother Ann M. Gleason, her first husband George M. Rowan Jr., and many dogs and grand dogs who are patiently surrounding her waiting for their milk bones and the chicken that she always so lovingly made for them every day.
