It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Germano Caggia, who left this world on June 8, 2026, at the age of 85. Germano leaves behind his beloved wife Maria, three devoted sons, Michael, David & Jerry, grandchildren, dear friends, and countless individuals whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity. Germano's life was a testament to faith, hard work, compassion, and service to others. Born in Vittoria, Sicily, Italy he learned the values of sacrifice and perseverance at an early age. Seeking opportunity and a brighter future, Germano and Maria immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he built a successful career in construction. He proudly contributed to the construction of many of Atlantic City's most iconic casinos and landmarks. Even after retirement, Germano never stopped working. Instead, he devoted his life to helping those in need throughout Vineland, Millville, Hammonton, and surrounding communities. Over time, he became affectionately known as the "Robin Hood of Vineland." Working quietly and without seeking recognition, Germano gathered food, vegetables, clothing, and supplies from those who had extra and redistributed them to families in need. Alongside Mission Teens & Villa Rossello Church, he helped deliver these donations to countless individuals and families. He partnered with churches of all denominations, homeless shelters, food pantries, and programs serving battered women and struggling families. Whether helping farm workers, homeless individuals living in the woods behind local stores, seniors, veterans, or families facing hardship, Germano was always there. His compassion knew no boundaries of race, religion, or background. If someone was hungry, cold, lonely, or in need, he found a way to help. Following Hurricane Sandy, Germano intensified his charitable efforts, organizing and delivering food, clothing, and necessities to food banks, shelters, rehabilitation centers, and community organizations throughout the region. Family members fondly recall arriving at these facilities with truckloads of donations and being greeted with open arms, hugs, and heartfelt gratitude from those whose lives he touched. Whether it was fresh produce, clothing, shoes, or even a box of pizza, Germano believed that no act of kindness was too small. One of the defining moments of his life came after surviving a serious brain tumor and a six-hour surgery. Upon awakening from the operation, during which doctors removed a plum-sized tumor from his frontal lobe, his first concern was not for himself. His first words were, "I've got to help the poor and feed the poor." From that day forward, he pursued his mission with even greater determination. Until just a few years ago, he remained actively involved in helping the homeless, seniors, veterans, struggling families, and anyone facing difficult circumstances. Germano never sought wealth, recognition, or praise. His greatest joy came from helping others. He dedicated his retirement, resources, and time to improving the lives of those around him. He believed every person deserved dignity, compassion, and a helping hand. His family hopes that Germano's legacy will inspire others to continue serving their communities through food banks, churches, shelters, and charitable organizations. They encourage people to create systems of volunteerism and food recovery, ensuring that usable food reaches those in need rather than going to waste. A funeral home visitation will be held on Thursday evening, June 11th from 6pm to 8pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 12th at 11am from Villa Rossello Chapel, 1009 Main Road, Newfield. Entombment will be private at All Saints Cemetery, Newfield.
