Obituary of Marie E. Herring

Marie Ellen (Tolotti) Herring passed away at home on April 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Throughout her struggle, her husband Bill and their faithful friend Milo were at her side. Marie was a lifelong resident of Vineland and a native of East Vineland, and she spent her childhood and youth on her family's produce farm. Along with her parents and siblings, Marie worked the farm in every season and often reminisced about those years with a laugh. She was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1963 and enjoyed reunion lunches with her classmates. After high school she had her daughter Michelle, followed by her son Chris, and they became the glad focus of her time. In her life, the love and pride Marie felt for her children was always evident, as was their respect and admiration for her. Meals, visits and holidays with them were her greatest comfort. As a young mother, Marie took a secretarial position at Halpin and Bailey Law Firm, where she worked for Vineland attorney Vincent Pancari. When Vince opened his own practice, Marie went with him and the two worked together for 47 years. Marie always spoke with warm affection and laughter about her lengthy career with Vince and they remained lifelong friends. Early in her life Marie met the women that would become her truest sisters. With Carol, Peggy and Sandee, she spent all the seasons of her life. Together they faced every crisis and shared every laugh, and Marie was at the heart of it all. Their memories with each other are endless, precious, and in some cases, best kept in the vault. Marie shared the last 40 years of her life with her beloved husband Bill. In marrying Bill, she always said she gained a best friend along with a second family, and the affection between her and her in-laws was deep and reciprocal. She was a slots enthusiast, a favorite at family functions, and the best pool-party hostess in the business. Throughout her life, Marie was the dearest mother, sister, daughter, and Godmother imaginable. She was "Aunt Marie" to more people than can be named, and a surrogate grandparent to so many little ones. She was ever helpful and supportive to her friends and family alike and she never, ever put herself first. Marie's legacy is one of unconditional love and loyalty, and she will be missed beyond measure by all. Marie is survived by her husband William (Bill) Herring; daughter Michelle Pierce (Mike); son Christopher Walters, her brother Joseph Tolotti (Susan); brothers-in-law Samuel Herring (Randy) and Dexter Gordon, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Frances (Viola) Tolotti; her sisters Joanne Tolotti and Julie Gordon, her in-laws Joseph and Gladys Herring, and her dear friend Sandee (Walters) Rubino. A funeral home visitation will be held on Friday, April 10th from 11am to 1pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
