Obituary of John Frohwein

John (Hans) Frohwein, M.D., age 98, died peacefully on March 17th, 2026, in Decatur, Georgia. Born March 13th, 1928 in Haaren, Aachen, Germany, to Jacob and Bettina Frohwein, he emigrated to the United States in March, 1938 with his family, during the rise of Nazi Germany. He settled with his parents and his sister Ilse in Northeast Philadelphia. His father found work as a butcher and meat cutter, and later his parents opened a General Store on Mascher St in Northeast Philly. He graduated from Olney High School as Valedictorian in 1946. He worked a myriad of jobs including a stint at Allied Chemical Plant, and as a TastyKake delivery man. He then attended Temple University as a Chemistry major, and he also served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1950 to 1952, receiving an honorable discharge as a result of fracturing his legs while skiing on leave in Germany. He attended Temple University School of Medicine, and married the love of his life, Beverly Rubin, in December of 1956. He graduated from Temple Medical School in 1957, in the top ten percent of his class, and interned at Pennsylvania General Hospital. He then went on to do his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple University Hospital. Following completion of his residency program, he moved to Vineland, NJ and served as cofounder of the first dedicated OB/GYN practice in the City, known as Vineland Obstetrical and Gynecological Professional Association, or VOGPA. He was a trusted and beloved OB/GYN physician in Vineland for over 35 years, having delivered over 10,000 local children in his long and successful career. Outside of his busy medical practice, he was an avid scuba diver, traveler, sailor, tennis player and golfer, as well as a busy father to his three sons. He loved traveling, movies, seeking out interesting cuisines, and his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed playing bridge. He is predeceased by his first son Michael Brett Frohwein, his dear sister Ilse Staub, and his cherished wife of 60 years, Beverly Frohwein. He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Laura), Daniel, and Robert (Dana), grandchildren Michael (Anna), Lizabeth, Scottie, Alexander (Zoë), Jack, Mackie, and great-grandchildren Piper and Iggy. A graveside service and burial will be held on Friday, March 20th at 10:30 am from Alliance Cemetery, 970 Gershal Ave, Norma.
