Obituary of Joan Pender
Joan Catherine Pender (Quigley), 90, of Buena, NJ, passed away January 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters, Colleen and Chrissy.
Joan was born in Philadelphia and raised in Newfield. She attended grade school in Newfield and later graduated from Vineland High School, where she proudly served as a majorette. In 1956, Joan married Melvin Pender, and the couple later settled in Newfield to raise their family.
Joan worked at Shieldalloy in Newfield. After retiring, Joan cherished time spent with her family and friends and enjoyed traveling to her family cabin in Canada. In her free time, she shared her artistic talents by decorating her home and garden, enjoyed playing solitaire, and was a faithful follower of David Muir on ABC News.
She is survived by her daughters, Colleen (Bob) and Chrissy; her son, Glenn (Leslie); grandchildren, Kelly, Sean (Erin), Sydney, Brianna, Reagan, and Sheridan; great-grandchildren, Autumn Lily and Sonnie; sisters, Theresa and Peggy; brother, William (Tina); sisters-in-law, Juanitta, Euphemia, Carlotta, Gloria, and Wilma; brothers-in-law, Cleveland, Allen, and Harold; along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, William and Anna; sisters, Mary, Helen, and Nancy; along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and her cherished dog, Emma.
Donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312, in honor of her and Mel's longtime companion, Emma Pender.
A church visitation will be held on Monday, January 12th, 2026, from 10am to 11am followed by a funeral mass at 11am from Our Lady Of The Blessed Sacrament - Church Of St. Michael, 504 West Avenue, Minotola. Final disposition will be at the convenience of the family.
