Obituary of Harry Curley Sr

Harry Curley Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Vineland, New Jersey, passed away early on December 3rd, 2025. A man deeply rooted in service, integrity, and community, Harry dedicated his life to the people and city he loved. Harry proudly served with the Vineland Police Department for 25 years, working as both a patrol officer and a Detective Sergeant. During his distinguished career, he led the Crime Prevention and Juvenile Aid Unit, organized the local Crime Stoppers program, and coordinated numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening relationships between police officers, youth, and local civic and religious leaders. After retiring from the police department, Harry continued his commitment to public service and education. From 1983 until his election as Mayor in 1988, he served on the Vineland Board of Education, including a term as President from 1986 to 1988. During this time, he also owned and operated his own private detective agency from 1984 to 1988. His deep dedication to his hometown ultimately led him to public office, where he served as Mayor of Vineland from 1988 to 1992, guiding the city with a genuine desire to see it thrive. Beyond his career, Harry was a devoted community member who lent his time and talent to many organizations. He served on the board or as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Vineland YMCA, the Vineland Red Cross, the Adult Education Program of Vineland Public Schools, the Exchange Club, and numerous other civic groups. Harry found great joy in life`s simple pleasures—golfing, wood turning, operating his CB and ham radio, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, play sports, and participate in school activities. His quiet pride and unwavering support were a constant in their lives. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce Piccone Curley, and by his youngest son, Christopher Curley. He is survived by his children, daughter Jill Ann Baruffi (Joseph) and sons Harry Curley Jr. (Nancy) and Timothy Curley (Ann); as well as his nephew, Michael Curley (Barbara). He leaves behind six granddaughters—Rochelle Curley, Christa Capriotti (Nick), Shannon St. Clair (John), Jenna Talarico (Justen), Nicole Petronglo (Joseph), and Lisa Curley (Justin)—and his great-grandchildren Gianna and Gino Capriotti, Connor and Parker St. Clair, Cameron Curley Owens, and Maia Petronglo. Harry is also survived by his beloved companions: his Golden Retriever, Dixie, and his African Grey Parrot, Alfie, both of whom brought him joy and comfort in his later years and many lifelong friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all. A funeral home visitation will be held on Friday evening, December 5th from 6pm to 8pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ and at the CHURCH on Saturday morning, December 6th from 9:15am to 11:15am followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 am from Our Lady Of The Blessed Sacrament - Church Of St. Michael, 504 West Avenue, Minotola.
