Obituary of William G. McComb
William George McComb of Hammonton, NJ, formerly of Bayonne, passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 90.
Bill was born in Brooklyn to the late Elizabeth (Decker) McComb and Walter McComb. He was the third of five children and grew up in Jersey City. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and he proudly served in the Mediterranean Sea during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis (DD 709). He was a Machinist Mate and received the Navy Occupation Medal (Europe) and the National Defense Service Medal.
He met the love of his life, Dale Rodgers, at a dance while on leave and they married shortly after he was discharged. They were married just shy of 68 years. They made their home in Bayonne before moving to Carteret and then back to Bayonne to raise their two children, Craig and Doreen. They moved to South Jersey twenty years ago to be closer to them and their grandchildren.
Bill was known to be a hard worker and early on had two jobs. He worked on the docks loading trucks for Roadway at night, worked for Berry Lu, ITT and Western Electric. He was a Black Seal Engineer and finished his career as a proud union member at AT&T in Berkley Heights.
He loved cars, being Irish, taking care of his garden and home, making wine, the Yankees, Jets and the Islanders, Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra, and Jack Daniels. But most of all he loved his wife and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Dale; his son Craig McComb (Susan); his daughter Doreen Rosenberg (Michael); grandchildren, Matthew McComb (Anastasiya), Eric McComb (Hannah), Jordana Rosenberg, and Abigail Rosenberg; and his great grandchild, Arianna McComb.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Walter and George and sisters Betty Miller and May Sheyda.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org/.
A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 17th at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Final disposition will be at the convenience of the family.
