Obituary of Helen C. Siciliano
Helen C. (Gray) Siciliano of Newfield passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Woodbury on May 14, 1928, she attended both Woodbury High School and Vineland High School. During WWII she worked at Sun Ray Drugs on Landis Ave. as a soda jerk. Marrying in 1947, she spent the next 77 years as a member of a large family, a wife, a mother of 3, grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 3.
After her three children had grown, she attended the then Glassboro State Teachers College and taught for many decades in the Buena Regional School District as a well-respected classroom teacher, classroom aide (Title 1 program) and substitute teacher. She loved being with and helping children.
Helen's cooking was inspired by watching her mother-in-law, Rose, and became a great Italian cook. She always had a full table of homemade meals along with a full heart of love, advice and never-ending support for her family. She loved cutting out little inspirational poems from newspapers or magazines and mailing them to her children wherever they were in the world. She sewed, crocheted, was a freehand artist and loved fashion. Her shoes always matched her outfit and she was always color coordinated.
Helen is predeceased by her parents, Alfred P. Gray & Clara (Newman), and her husband Gaetano (Gussie) who was a decorated WWII MIA-POW and disabled veteran. She is survived by her children, Roberto Stefano Siciliano, Karen Ann Smith (Tom) and Joyce Marie Houston (George) as well as her grandchildren, Raffaele Stefano Siciliano, Thomas & Joshua Smith, Shanna Miller (Ronnie), Melanie Argo (Erik) and Jessie Houston (Troy), and Great grandchildren, Bryar, Sailor & Ophelia.
As per Helen's wishes, the services will be private and burial with be at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery with her husband.
