I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Dennis was an absolute juggernaut in the swimming community. His dedication for 20+ years is unrivaled and many have benefitted from his training. I can remember several occasions joking around with him on the pool deck. Always bringing a joyful, motivating intensity to the poolside. Several conversations before/after races and a stern "knock it off" when we carried on too far... probably during Starts and Turns. This one time in Charlotte, NC, Dennis brought some kind of SEALS bathrobe, or like jedi yoda looking thing given to him as a coaching gift? I can't remember why but that's just the weird stuff he did (probably to combat all the other shenanigans and WF belts going around at that time, looking at you Grabowy). All I wanted to do was wear it, so he used it to motivate me. I wish I could find the picture with it on, standing next to him, both with huge smiles but could only scrape together the few photos attached. They are from either the 2002 or 2003 season. Like most people who have swam several, mind-numbing, thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands of laps, it is hard not to think about all the coaches, teachings, and wonderful memories you have with them. Even now during adult lap swim, memories still creep in. I am grateful for his lessons in my early swimming career and impact on my life. Coach Dennis was one of the most positive and influential parts of my childhood. Ten years with the Vineland Seals taught me that hard work and determination really does help you overcome everything life throws at you, and achieve everything you put your mind to.
