Obituary of Duane Ethel Schwegal
Duane E. Schwegal
Duane Schwegal was promoted to paradise on 03/16/2025.
Sins forgiven, a life spent serving, a new birthday in paradise.
This sums up the life of Duane E. Schwegal who departed for heaven one day before her 88th birthday.
Born March 17, 1937, she spent her early years growing up on Cedar and Main in Millville. During her High School years, a handsome football player named Russ caught her eye and her heart. She was often seen crossing the bridge on Main Street to saunter by Sasdelli's gas station where he worked. In August 1955 they wed and spent the rest of their years together.
Duane served others right from the start. She and Russ joined Second Methodist Church in Millville soon after their marriage and it wasn't long before she began teaching 3rd graders about the love of Jesus. She taught there for decades. At Second Methodist, they met many friends who were in their lives for many years. At home, she spent her time raising her wonderful kids as well as helping with finances by watching others kids. Later, she worked in the cafeteria at Holly Heights School. She was often surprised that years later, an adult would approach her and tell her they were one of the many students she watched over. She and her kids never lived in a house that was not built by Russ. On Pleasant Drive, numerous gatherings with the Second Methodist gang were held. Good food was eaten, and in the backyard spirited basketball games occurred, usually won by the youngsters versus the old Dads. Their final abode became everyone's favorite "fishing hole" where the catfish were plentiful and the homemade soup was consumed with gusto. There was a reported Kraken sighting in the creek, but that was never confirmed. After Russ went home to be with Jesus, Duane moved in with her daughter Lisa and her husband Felix where she spent her "retirement" prior to moving to Summit Place where she lived out her final time. She often spoke about looking forward to seeing Jesus, her twin boys Glenn and Mark, and Russ- likely in that order.
She is survived by her three children, Steven from Oklahoma, Lisa (Felix) who lives in New Jersey, and Scott (Aronna) from Virginia. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph "Russ" Russell; her twin sons Mark and Glenn, and her parents Esther and Oscar Garrison.
A memorial service is planned for April 12th at 10 am at Clayton Baptist Church- 110 South Delsea Drive Clayton NJ
