Obituary of Kyran James Killian

Kyran James Killian, 74, of Vineland, passed away on May 5, 2021 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor him by following his example of living life to the fullest. Kyran was born in Atlantic City to the late William Francis and Caronia (Tierney) Killian. After graduating from high school in 1964, he earned a bachelor's degree from Glassboro State College (Rowan University) and several years later, a Substance Awareness Certification from Georgian Court University. Kyran taught at St. Nicholas Parochial School in Atlantic City and then at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon for several years. For most of his professional career, he worked in the Millville public school system as a teacher and Substance Awareness Coordinator. During his employment there, Kyran spearheaded several innovative programs and was actively involved in numerous student extracurricular activities. He also worked part time for the Partnership for a Drug Free NJ as a parent educator. The Millville Board of Education named Kyran "Teacher of the Year" in 1997 for his dedication and exemplary service to youth. In 1982, Kyran was selected as an "Outstanding Young Man of America" in recognition of his professional achievements, superior leadership ability and exceptional service in the community. Although Kyran officially retired in 2006, he missed counseling at risk students. Therefore, he sought employment with Cape Assist (a substance prevention and treatment agency serving Cape May County) who placed him in the Margaret Mace School in Wildwood as a part-time SAC. What Kyran valued most, however, was family. His loyalty, love and support will always be cherished. Family and friends will remember his Irish wit, out-going personality, kindness and unflagging energy. Kyran enjoyed traveling, motorcycling, and boating. He was known for his love of clothes, shoes, eyewear and jewelry (earning him his high school nickname "Ruby" ). Kyran is survived by his wife Denise; son Eric; brother Pat (Joanne); his sister-in-law Jean and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bill. As Kyran wished, funeral services are private.
