Obituary of Manella 'Nellie" Cohen

Manella "Nellie" S. (Teichman) Cohen, 70, of Voorhees, having courageously battled an extended illness, departed this life this past Sunday, January 14, 2018. Born to Holocaust survivors in Munich, Germany in a displaced persons camp after World War II, she emigrated to the United States aboard the USAT General J. H. McRae, with her parents, Jacob and Marie Teichman. They settled in Pittsgrove Township, where Jacob and Marie established a general store at the corner of Landis and Gershal Avenues. They named it "Nellie's Bargain Center," after their daughter. When Nellie arrived in the United States, she spoke only German, but learned English and went on to graduate from Vineland High School in 1966 and to earn her Chemistry degree at Temple University. Nellie went on to gain success as a realtor in the Cherry Hill area, earning the award of "Million Dollar Seller." Nellie was a member of Hadassah and many other realtor-related organizations. While growing up in Pittsgrove Township, she was a regular at Norma Beach and could be found dancing many a summer's day away at "The Hut," and even Dick Clark's American Bandstand in Philadelphia, PA. Nellie enjoyed music and dancing, dogs, movies, friends and family, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Nellie is survived by her two children, Barry Cohen and Natalie Cohen, her sister, Terry Kuhnreich, their spouses, her four grandchildren and two nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Marie Teichman, and an 18 month old brother whom she never knew, Issac, who was murdered in the Holocaust. A graveside service and burial officiated by Rabbi Yisroel Rapoport will be held Wednesday at 1pm from Alliance Cemetery, 970 Gershal Ave, Norma, NJ. Shiva will be observed at Nellie's residence (please contact funeral home for further information) ARRANGEMENTS are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360 Donations in memory of Nellie may be made to: Animal Adoptions Center, 501 Berlin Road, N.
