Obituary of James Asselta
James C. Asselta, 74, of Vineland, passed away peacefully in his home having been cared for by his loving family on Saturday, March 18. Born June 18, 1942 in the Bronx, he was raised in Vineland and graduated from Vineland High School.
He was a partner for over 20 years in the family owned Asselta Farms of Minotola where alongside his father and brother managed Asselta Farms taking his product from seedling to market and routinely found at the front of the line at the Vineland Produce Auction showing and selling over 50 varieties of produce. During this time he was an avid hunter and bowling enthusiast. His children, Jane and Jim, recall his love for puzzle making, kite flying and caring for his roses, figs and tomatoes.
With the arrival of casino gaming in Atlantic City he started a new career working at the Claridge, the Sands and for over 20 years at the Tropicana. He enjoyed his work, the camaraderie of his colleagues, and the many friendships he made with his players to whom he proudly would give away his homemade wine and jarred tomatoes.
