Obituary of Anne Finley

Anne "Nancy" (Ryan) Finley, 82 of Sea Isle City, NJ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Nancy was born in Philadelphia, PA, on May 12, 1934 to Phillip and Maryann (Martin) Ryan. Nancy was raised on Melon Street in Philadelphia, receiving her education at Saint Agatha's Elementary School and West Catholic High School. Nancy attended Misericordia School of Nursing and received her license as a Registered Nurse in May 1958. She began her career as a nurse in the labor and delivery room at Misericordia General Hospital. Nancy married the love of her life, Peter J. Finley, on November 22, 1958. Nancy and Pete raised their five children in Vineland, NJ, where they were active members of Sacred Heart Parish. Nancy worked as a labor and delivery room nurse at Newcomb Hospital in Vineland. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in School Nursing from Glassboro State College in June 1978. Nancy worked as a school nurse for the Vineland Board of Education at the D'Ippolito and Johnstone schools until her retirement in June 1999. Nancy loved the hundreds of children she cared for during her 20 years as a school nurse. Nancy and Pete retired to Sea Isle City in 2008. Nancy was devoted to her family, was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting gatherings at her homes in Vineland and Sea Isle. Nancy dearly loved and was very proud of her grandchildren. They brought her countless hours of happiness. Nancy was an avid collector of nursing statues and gladly shared her stories behind each of her more than 250 statues with anyone who asked. She loved creating unique and special handmade gifts for her family. Nancy loved Irish music and culture, celebrating many of it's traditions with her family. She was a fabulous cookie baker, passing her skills down through two generations of her family and creating lasting happy memories for her grandchildren through the annual holiday baking extravaganza. Nancy loved to travel especially with her family and visited dozens of places in the United States and around the world, including many times to Ireland. She is survived by husband of 58 years, Peter; her five children, Peter (Coleen), Kathleen (Orlando "Nick" Riveria), Anne, Patrick, and Matthew (Leigh); six grandchildren, Danielle Opperman (Danny), Colleen, Kylie, Brennan, Meghan and Michelle Milita-Freeman (Jon); two wonderful caregivers, Brittani Gillice and Liz Larkin. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Phillip and Maryann Ryan and her brother, Daniel Ryan. At Nancy's request, services and burial will be private.
