Michael Manders

Obituary of Michael A. Manders

Michael A. Manders, 67, of San Francisco, CA, formerly of Vineland, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2016 at his home in California. Michael was born on January 4, 1949, in Vineland, NJ to the late Fred and Ilse (Anson) Manders. Since childhood, Michael was knows as smart and quiet. He graduated from Vineland High School Class of 1967, where he enjoyed participating on the Debate Team. He completed his education at Rutgers University, Class of 1971. After retiring from his lifelong career in accounting, Michael found a new "retirement career" in teaching others to play Bridge. Like all good Bridge players, Michael had an ability to concentrate, an even temperament, a capacity for logic, and an unshakable positive attitude. Michael very much enjoyed companionship with his feline "kids," Roquefort and Ricotta and loved to relay stories about how the two of them would "talk" to him. Michael was a devoted napper, an enthusiastic maker of gazpacho, an avid fan of the musical group Pink Martini, and was always happy to share a glass of wine and some friendly banter. He is survived by his three brothers, David (Holly) of Vineland, NJ, Robbie (Diana) of Eugene, OR, and Steven (Ronda) of Cherry Hill, NJ; nephews, Dan, Max, Ari, Jacob, Joshua, Evan, Nat, Alexander, and Larson; nieces, Hilary, Hannah, Nina, Isabel and Gisele as well as many loving and caring cousins and friends. A graveside service and burial will be held 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 31 at Alliance Cemetery, Norma, NJ. Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360. Donations in memory of Michael may be made to: 1.
